In 2013, Eurazeo China opened in Shanghai. This office was set up to accelerate the growth of portfolio companies in China and extend the network of Eurazeo partners across the country. Eddie Chen heads the Eurazeo China office, which currently has employees with highly international profiles and excellent knowledge of the Chinese economy.
After an international career with the United Nations Development Programme, Eddie Chen returned to China in 2001, where he worked from 2002 for “Invest Sweden”, a Swedish governmental agency promoting business opportunities and assisting Chinese investors in Sweden. In ten years, Eddie Chen accompanied more than 250 investment projects by Chinese investors in Sweden across a wide range of sectors including transportation, life sciences, telecommunications, financial services, energy and the environment. After several internships at Total (Equity and Financing Division), CDC International (Private Equity), Chao his end-studies internship at Eurazeo and joint the China team as an analyst in June 2015.
The Shanghai office has several achievements to its credit. These include first-step guidance for Colisée, a reference in the French long-term care industry, and IES, specializing in charging infrastructures for electrical vehicles. With the backing of Eurazeo China, both these Eurazeo portfolio companies have signed partnerships with Chinese groups: Colisée, with the Chinese conglomerate China Merchant for the creation in 2016 of an establishment with 130 medical beds in Canton and the construction of 50 retirement homes in the country by 2020, and IES, with Wanma, a major player in the distribution of charging systems in China, for the retailing of IES products and a joint project to develop fast-charging solutions in the country.
